Learning objectives and brief outline

Abstract

This two-part learning module introduces students to the concept of a just energy transition, with a focus on justice, inclusion, and equity in energy systems. The first session provides an overview of what constitutes a just transition toward an energy sustainable society, exploring its key dimensions (distributional, procedural, and recognitional justice), as well as the social and political challenges involved. The second session focuses on energy poverty and social exclusion across selected EU countries. It examines structural disparities in access to affordable, clean energy and highlights policy responses to mitigate energy vulnerability and promote inclusion.

Learning objectives

Course participants who study the learning module will be able to

• Understand and explain the concept of a just energy transition and its main dimensions.
• Analyze the causes and impacts of energy poverty and its relationship with social exclusion in the EU.
• Compare policies aimed at addressing energy injustice in different national contexts
